Editor’s note, this story contains descriptions of significant gun shot wounds.
Was sent out for a shooting on Paradise Road. We arrived with local police right behind us. I noticed a 12g shotgun shell on the steps leading into the front door.
Two more were laying just inside. Blood trail led us to the screaming coming from a bedroom that was immediately inside and to the left. There we found an elderly male, sitting on a toppled pile of mattresses holding a 5 year old boy. The adult male had been shot twice. Once in the upper left back near his shoulder blade. And once in the back of his thigh. The back wound was a very close range shot, and left a gaping hole.
He was still alive. The young boy, who was screaming, was clutching the man tightly, even though his left hand had been shot off. During transport, the adult male said the boy was his grandson and his daughter had left him there for several days. After several attempts to get his daughter to come get the boy, she sent her boyfriend over to kill them both.
Like most of our calls, we never found out the disposition of our patients. Even after 6 years, I remember every detail about that night.
